I thought I'd talk a little bit about what we're doing in Honduras, and why we're going there. The organization we're going through (visitingorphans) matches churches up with orphanages around the world. Our goals for the trip are to:
- Hang out with the orphans. There are about 100 orphans there at any time, so the staff can be overwhelmed with just meeting basic needs.
- We'll probably be doing some work on the buildings as well
- Build relationships with the staff so we can know how we can best help them throughout the year
- Help to get the children there placed into families, either in Honduras or here in the US
There are approximately 180,000 orphans in Honduras. That's about the same as the population of Aurora. We're excited to meet the children there, and see how we can help provide opportunities for them.
