Day 7 - On a lighter note

After 2 more serious posts, I thought I'd lighten things up a little bit.  Being an elementary teacher (or just a nerd, depending on who you ask), I think in mathematical terms a lot.  Having 31 days in March though messes things up in my mind.  Since 31 is a prime number, I can't reduce the number of days left into smaller fractions.  Today was 7 out of 31.  I want to know when I'm 1/4 of the way through this month.  Not because I can't wait to be finished, just because that's how I think.  :)

My mathematical mind went into action though.  I calculated that at 6:00 pm tomorrow, we'll officially be 1/4 of the way through the month. (Anyone want to confirm/refute my calculations?)

And, I found this cool photo of the runway in Honduras.  Apparently, it is one of the world's scariest to land on.  I don't really worry about flying, but this might just get me a little concerned.  :)

  1. I'm so glad I didn't know how small that runway was when I landed there in '97. I remember that flight, not because it was scarey, just the opposite, it was SO green below, the sky so blue, it was too beautiful looking to be scared. Now...the actual "airport" well yes, was scarey and quite the eye opener.

  3. As a math nerd myself, this made me laugh. And realize that it would drive me crazy to not be able to reduce the fraction! I'm glad to hear you are over 1/4 of the way there, and still going strong. Way to go!

  4. Just today I was telling my students how when you get to be an adult you realize we're all nerds. Glad to know I was right! -Matt

  5. I'm glad to see I don't fit into the nerd category. When math problems like that come to mind with me, I try to make a rough estimate and forget about it as fast as possible. No sense wasting brain cells on stupid math problems.
