Yesterday was a particularly challenging day. One of our friends had a birthday, and Janell baked cupcakes to take to her party (no, the ingredients were not part of our $1 a day). So, all day our house was filled with the delicious aromas of homemade cupcake batter and vanilla frosting. This combination is my absolute favorite. I'm not sure if this was some sort of punishment for me, but it definitely worked. Being around all day and knowing I couldn't eat them was pretty tough.
It made me think how often situations like that play out around the world. A poor, hungry man walks down a street that's crowded with cafes and restaurants that he knows he is not able to afford to eat at. He smells all the different scents intermingling as he walks by. Maybe he is hoping for some good scraps to be thrown into the dumpster later that night.
I guess I'll be thankful for a roof over my head and for the fact that I even get to choose not to have life's luxuries.

I bet that was hard! did you keep an eye on Janell to make sure she didn't "just happen" to lick the frosting off her fingers?
