I've been struggling a little more over the last couple days with our $1 a day menu, so to take my mind off of it I did a little research on Casitas Kennedy.
Casitas Kennedy is located in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. It is made up of 8-10 buildings, but only about half of them are functional right now. I don't know how much construction work we'll be doing, but it would be great to change that number from 4 or 5 functional buildings to 6 or 7. There are approximately 90 kids at Casitas Kennedy, and each child receives about $75 of support each month. Most of these kids come from abusive homes or have simply been abandoned, and the $75 a month does not cover any type of counseling service, which they could all use. They have a couple vocational programs at Casitas Kennedy for the teenage girls so they have employment options when they leave the orphanage at age 18. Otherwise they will most likely turn to begging, dependency or prostitution.
The need here is incredibly overwhelming, especially when I consider that this is one orphanage in one city in one country. There are thousands upon thousands more orphans in the same or worse situations.
And I am only one person.
I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.

I recognized that quote, as soon as I started to read it! How tragic it would be to not do what we can do, because we cannot do everything. God doesn't ask us to do everything; He asks us to do the portion He has lead us to. His strength is made perfect in our weakness, and greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world. It seems He is in the process of perfecting His strength in you two, as you willingly submit yourselves to a taste of what the less fortunate live, their whole lives. I can only imagine how touched God's tender heart must be.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Great quote! Imagine if everyone did something....
